Reinventing GAR Products – Reduced Prices, No Compromise
Las Vegas, NV - May 18, 2010
Streamlining the Business
It took over 1,000 hours of brainstorming, testing, training and execution for GAR Products to completely streamline the product lifecycle for its custom Indoor and Outdoor contract furniture lines. In partnership with the NJ Manufacturers Extension Program, the company has invested in Lean Manufacturing training for the entire facility, bringing in experts to address every step of the order and fulfillment process. Production times have been slashed and are now measured in fractions of a minute. Every step of the customization process is faster and more flexible.
At the same time, raw material sources have been scrutinized and developed to ensure the greatest quality with the least environmental impact. It is a testament to GAR Products’ history of sound environmental practices in construction that they were able to receive full Greenguard® Indoor Air Quality Certification without making a single change or adjustment to the existing build process.
The past two years at GAR Products were not solely focused on wringing efficiency out of the manufacturing process. In an equally important move, GAR Products invested in key talent, equipment and inventory to dramatically expand new product development and customization options for their client base.
Becoming more custom for customers
“We had been hearing request after request for unique new ideas or custom variations on our existing models. We decided we needed to become the resource for custom and semi-custom furniture design.”
– President, Sam Garfunkle.
GAR Products’ customization capabilities have extended well beyond the traditional finish and special upholstery options they have mastered for years.
Today, in-house designer Amy Kern offers her design services to clients as part of the project development process. Dozens of successful projects later, Kern continues to discover new and exciting solutions to each design challenge. “I love the chance to work with different clients – some bring a fully formed concept to the table, some are just starting with a context or inspiration. Either way, it gives us the chance to create furniture that fits perfectly with the project.”
Quality First, Quality Last
For over fifty years as a family owned and operated business, GAR Products has prided itself on the craftsmanship and quality of its furniture. Now in its third generation of family management, it joins a rare group of companies able to stand the test of time in a competitive market.
“I learned from my father that the only way to succeed in the long run is to build products meant to last for the long run. We have always believed in building the best. I’m proud to stand behind our work with a 10 Year Structural Warranty.”
– Chairman, Jay Garfunkle.
In an admittedly tough market for the Contract Furniture industry, a multi-year effort of reengineering, investment and commitment to customer needs is paying off for the business. 2010 will be an exciting year for GAR Products’ customers as they reap the rewards of great prices with no compromise of quality, design or environmental integrity.
